If Menorca is the island of the five lighthouses, Es Migjorn Gran is the municipality of the 5 natural beaches. All located on the south coast of the island, which means white sand, turquoise waters and nature all around. A fantastic place for sunbathing during summer and for a hiking route during winter.
Being unspoilt beaches, there is no road access and parking nearby. This exclusivity avoid crowds during the months of July and August.
Binigaus, Escorxada, Fustam & Trebalúger
We start form Sant Tomas, the only touristic urbanization in Es Migjorn Gran. Here we can leave the car and walk following the coast to the right (west). The first beach we found is Binigaus. It is only ten minutes from the car park, so it is usually pretty crowded.
At the end of this beach we can walk the path that follows the coast and get on to the beaches of Cala Escorxada, Cala Fustam and Trebalúger. We can also choose the interior, following the Horse Riding Track (Camí de Cavalls), which leads directly to Trebalúger.
These three beaches, with Binigaus and Cala Mitjana (this one belongs the municipality of Ferreries) compose a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI(, figure established by the Government of the Balearic Islands to protect vulnerable natural areas of the islands
If being in Sant Tomas, we head to the left, leaving the urbanizationd and following the Horse Riding Track, we’ll get to Atalis. This beach is limiting Es Migjorn from the municipality of Alaior. On the back side of the beach is the Son Buter tinny valley and «Es Prat» a wetland area rich in flora and fauna. We can follow the path and reach the beach of Son Bou.
From the Restaurant S’Engolidor we recommend you to visit these beautiful beaches, almost heavenly. This is one of our favorite spots in Menorca. And we hope that in the meal after the hike in Restaurant s’Engolidor, you tell us about your route.
